Graham Harman: Morton’s Hyperobjects & the Anthropocene

synthetic zerø

“Harman will consider the similarities and differences of the terms ‘hyperobjects’, coined by Timothy Morton, and ‘anthropocene objects’. The concept of Hyperobjects refers to entities that are so vast in spatial or temporal scale as to exceed the usual dimensions of a human life. By contrast, Harman describes anthroposcene objects as entities that require human beings as one of their components, even if they are not exhausted by human access to them. While hyperobjects push ecology toward the priority of the non-human, the anthropocene might seem to do the opposite. Harman will subsequently continue his lecture by considering the intellectual implications of both terms.”

golden age of barbarians w/ james c sott

synthetic zerø

“How did so many of us, Homo sapiens, quite late in our species history, come to live in sedentary heaps of people, grain, and domesticated animals and governed by units we call states? And what was the relationship between these polities and those remained outside their control? The earliest agrarian states were small and fragile. More people lived outside them than within. They were subject to internal fracture, abandonment, and raiding—both sporadic and systematic. They also represented valuable trade depots that enhanced the exchange value of products from non-state ecologies. The result was, for a time at least, what one might call a “golden age of barbarians.” see also https://antinomiaimediata.wordpress.com/2016/07/02/paleo-agorism/
